This article walks you through completing a data collection using the Hearsay Upload Portal. You'll enter your extraction code, review what data has been requested, and complete each item step by step.
Open the Upload Portal
There are two ways to access the Upload Portal, depending on your role.
As a custodian
Click the link in the invitation email, or go directly to upload.usehearsay.com.
As an account holder
From the Collection Requests page, click the "Portal" button next to the custodian's data request.
Enter your extraction code
Type or paste the extraction code provided by the account holder into the "Enter Extraction Code Here" field and click "Continue".
Start your collection
You'll see a plan of all requested data sources. Click "Start" to begin — you'll be guided through each one.
Emails
Select your email provider: Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail, iCloud Mail, or Other Email (IMAP). Follow the prompts to connect your account for collection.

Bank Records
Click "Connect Bank Account" to securely connect your bank through Plaid.

Files
Upload the specific documents listed under "Requested Documents" by clicking "Upload" next to each item. If you don't have a document, click "Skip".

AI Chat History
Select your AI platform: Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), or Gemini (Google). Follow the instructions to export and upload your AI conversation history.

Social Media Data
Select your platform: Facebook, Instagram, Threads, or LinkedIn. Follow the instructions provided to download and upload your data from each platform.

Cell Phones
Click "Start Cell Phone Collection" to begin.
Choose your device
Select iPhone / iPad or Android Phone / Tablet.
Confirm storage
Enter your storage details so the system can verify your computer has enough free space for the collection.
iPhone / iPad:
Enter both your phone's storage (found in Settings → General → iPhone Storage) and your computer's storage. The system calculates whether your computer has enough space based on your phone's data size.
Android Phone / Tablet:
Enter your computer's storage only. You'll need at least 25 GB of free space.
When the storage check shows "You're good to go", click "I'm ready" to continue.
Final preparation check
Click "I'm ready — next step" to continue.
Download the Hearsay Extractor
The page detects your computer type and recommends the correct download. Click the download button. If you're using a different computer, select "Mac (Intel)" or "Windows".
Start the phone backup
Once the Hearsay Extractor opens, copy the extraction code displayed on the page and paste it into the Hearsay Extractor to begin. The page shows "Waiting for your collection to start..." until the collection starts.
After the backup completes, the Hearsay Extractor will guide you through selecting which conversations and other phone data to upload.

Confirm collection completed
Once all data sources are complete, you'll see the confirmation page. If you need to share additional data, click "Add more" next to any source, or use the same extraction code to log back in later.
