This article explains what to do when your law firm sends you a Hearsay extraction code. It covers what the code is for, how to prepare, and how to complete your collection in the Hearsay Upload Portal.
What an Extraction Code Is
An extraction code is a unique code created by your legal team to authorize your upload for their case.
You’ll typically receive your extraction code from [email protected]. The same email includes a link to the Upload Portal, where you’ll complete your collection.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
Your Hearsay extraction code
A computer (Windows or Mac) — needed for phone collections
A USB cable for your phone
Enough storage space
Tip: Review How to prepare for a phone collection before you start.
Complete Your Collection
Everything happens in the Upload Portal:
Click the link in the invitation email from your law firm, or go directly to upload.usehearsay.com, then click "Get Started".
Enter your extraction code and click "Continue".
Review the Collection Request Summary. It shows your law firm's name and the data sources they've requested, and confirms: "You choose exactly what to share. Nothing is sent without your approval." Click "Start".
Complete each item on your Collection Checklist. For phone data, the portal guides you through downloading the Hearsay Extractor and connecting your phone.
For the full walkthrough of every data source, see How to complete a collection.
Step-by-step phone guides:
After You Upload
Once complete:
Your law firm will automatically receive the uploaded data.
When every item on your Collection Checklist shows a green checkmark, click "Complete". The Collection Complete screen shows a summary of everything you shared.
Click "Log Out" when you're done.
