Create a new case and data collection request using the guided setup wizard.
For a single-page setup, see How to create a case and data collection request (Pro Mode).
Click + New Case
From the My Cases page, click + New Case in the top right corner.
Case Details
Enter a name for the case. The case name appears across the platform, including the My Cases page and exports. You can edit the case name later.
Click Continue to proceed to the next step.
Click Start Collection Now to create the case and open the collection portal immediately, bypassing the remaining wizard steps.
Team Access
Add users or teams to give them access to the case and its data.
Click Continue to proceed to data source selection.
Click Create Case Only to create the case without a data collection request.
Create Case Only
If you clicked Create Case Only on the Team Access step, you can optionally add a custodian or request assistance before creating the case.
Click Create Case to finish.
The case appears on the My Cases page with No data requests in the status column. Any assigned member can open the case later and click + New Request to create a data collection request.
Source Categories
Select the data sources you want to collect from the custodian.
Click Continue to proceed.
Check Encrypted iPhone backup if you need call logs, Safari history, or health records from an iPhone.
Requested Documents
If you selected Documents as a data source, list the specific files that the custodian should upload — PDFs, contracts, tax forms, or other standalone files that wouldn’t already be captured from their phone backup, email accounts, or financial records.
Enter one document name per line. Click Continue to proceed.
People & Contact Info
Choose how the custodian will share their data. There are two sharing modes: Manual Search & Share and Pre-defined Search & Share (Auto).
Manual Search & Share
The custodian manually chooses which messages or data to share. No pre-defined search parameters are applied. Check Allow client to share all conversations at once to let the custodian share all message threads and/or all emails at once. If unchecked, the custodian must select individual items to share.
Click Continue to proceed.
Roles (optional — Manual only)
With Manual Search & Share, you can add roles to guide the custodian on whose conversations to look for. Each role includes:
Role name — A label identifying the person (e.g., “Witness,” “Opposing Party”)
Hint for Client — A description to help the custodian identify the person
Channels — Select which data sources apply: Mobile Device, Email, Slack/Teams, Discord, Instagram, Files & PDFs
Required — Mark the role as required for the custodian to complete
Click Add Role to save. Roles do not automatically search or upload data.
Pre-defined Search & Share (Auto)
Pre-defined search queries run automatically. Matching threads are collected without the custodian needing to search, select, and upload manually. Click Continue to proceed.
Contact Info & Keywords (Pre-defined only)
Enter your search criteria:
Contact Names — one per line
Email Addresses — one per line
Phone Numbers — one per line. Check International numbers to include country codes (e.g. +1, +44, +81).
Keywords — one per line. Check Exact match to only match keywords exactly as typed.
Click Continue to proceed.
Date Range
Set the time period for the collection. Select Collect everything to include all available data, or Specific date range to limit the collection to a custom period.
Click Continue to proceed.
Send To
Enter the custodian’s contact information, collection method, and additional services.
Click Continue to proceed.
Require Client Payment: Enabling this option will trigger a separate email to the client to pay for the collection instead of charging the firm card on file. If the client does not complete the payment link, they will still be allowed to complete the collection. If payment is not received within 30 days from the upload date, the firm card on file will be charged.
Review Request
Review the request summary and click Create Request to finalize. This generates the extraction code and sends the automated email invitation to the custodian (if enabled).
