How do I send a collection request to opposing counsel?

Send a collection request to opposing counsel for review, and track their approval or rejection.

This article is for account holders signed in at portal.usehearsay.com. This includes opposing counsel, who review the request in their own Hearsay account.

Set up the request

On the Send To step of the New Case wizard, select Opposing Counsel and enter the attorney's name, email address, and firm name. All three are required. Review and release collected data

Case Data, Messages, not shared with the originating firm

After the custodian uploads data, it lands in opposing counsel's account first. Nothing is sent to the originating firm until released, and release is set per data source.

Two conversations selected, Share selected (2)

To release data, open Case Data, select a data source, tick the conversations to release, and click Share selected or Share all.

Share only the selected items modal

Click Share selected items to confirm. Sharing replaces anything already shared from that data source.

Conversations marked SHARED

Shared items are marked with a SHARED badge.

Revoke button

To withdraw released items, click Revoke.

Revoke access modal

Click Revoke access to confirm. The originating firm immediately loses access to everything shared from that data source.

Messages after revoke, nothing shared

Previously shared messages are withdrawn and no longer marked as shared.

Billing

Your firm's card on file is charged when data is uploaded, the same as a My Client request. Opposing counsel is never asked for payment, and cannot purchase add-ons; equipment and managed collection you pre-approved are billed to your firm. Contact Support if opposing counsel needs additional services.
