How to authenticate a Yahoo account

Step-by-step guide on how to authenticate a Yahoo account for collection.

This step-by-step guide walks you through how to authenticate a Yahoo account for a collection. This process does not require a computer and can be completed on a phone.

Note: You do not need to create a new app password if you have an existing one. Skip to Step 6 if you already have an app password.

Step 1: Log in to Yahoo

Go to https://login.yahoo.com/myaccount/security and log in to your Yahoo account.


Step 2: Click External connections

Click External connections on the Security page.


Step 3: Click Create app password

Click Create app password under External connections.


Step 4: Enter app name and generate password

Enter a name for the app (connector) and click Generate password.


Step 5: Copy app password

Copy this password and keep it accessible. Keep this tab open in case you need to reference the password again.


Step 6: Select Emails from your collection checklist

Open the Hearsay Upload portal and log in with your extraction code. On the Your Collection Checklist page, click the Emails card to begin connecting your email account and selecting emails to share.


Step 7: Select email provider

Select your email provider and to start the authentication flow.


Step 8: Click "I've created my app password"

Click I've created my app password to proceed to the credential entry form.


Step 9: Enter your email and app password

Enter your Yahoo email address and the app password you created in Step 5, then click Connect to Account.


Proceed to Search, select, and import

Once authenticated, you can search for individual emails to import or import emails in bulk. Use the Find Specific Emails tab for targeted searches, or the Import Emails in Bulk tab for larger collections.
