Authenticating your Yahoo account requires creating an app password in Yahoo, then entering it in the Upload Portal. This process does not require a computer and can be completed on a phone.
If you already have a Yahoo app password, skip to Step 6.
Yahoo does not support standard OAuth sign-in for IMAP connections. You need to create an app password first.
Step 1: Log in to your Yahoo account
Go to https://login.yahoo.com/myaccount/security and log in to your Yahoo account.
Step 2: Open External connections
Click External connections on the Security page.
Step 3: Create an app password
Click Create app password under External connections.
Step 4: Name the app and generate the password
Enter a name for the app (for example, "Hearsay") and click Generate password.
Step 5: Copy the app password
Copy the generated password and keep it accessible. Leave this tab open in case you need to reference it again.
Step 6: Select Yahoo Mail in the Upload Portal
On the Emails step in the Upload Portal, select Yahoo Mail (Yahoo).
Step 7: Open the credential form
Click I've created my app password to open the credential form.
Step 8: Enter your email and app password
Enter your Yahoo email address and the app password you created in step 5, then click Connect to Account.
Start importing emails
After authenticating, the portal confirms your account is connected and presents two collection methods: search for individual emails or import in bulk.
Continue with How do I complete an email collection? for instructions on searching for and importing your emails.
