How to collect financial records

How to securely connect your bank account through Plaid in the Upload Portal to collect financial records.

Hearsay uses Plaid — a secure service used by thousands of apps — to connect directly to your bank with industry-standard encryption. Your bank username and password are never shared with Hearsay.

Step 1: Click "Connect Bank Account"

From the Collection Checklist in the Upload Portal, click Bank Records, then click Connect Bank Account. The page shows the types of accounts you can share — checking, savings, credit cards, loans, mortgages, investments, 401(k), and IRA.

Note: Plaid typically provides up to 2 years of history. If you need records going further back, you’ll need to download PDF statements directly from your bank.

Step 2: Enter your phone number

A Plaid window opens. Enter your phone number and click Continue.

Step 3: Verify your phone number

Enter the verification code sent to your phone and click Continue.

Step 4: Select your bank

If you’ve connected a bank through Plaid before, your saved institutions appear. Select one and click Confirm, or click + Add new account to connect a different bank.

If adding a new account: search for your bank or select it from the list.

Step 5: Log in to your bank

Click Continue to login. A window opens for you to log in directly with your bank.

Complete the login and authorization directly with your bank. Hearsay does not collect or store your username or password.

Step 6: Click Continue to share

Click Continue.

Step 7: Click "Complete"

Your linked accounts appear on the Bank Records page. To add accounts from another bank, click + Connect Another Institution. Once all of your accounts are linked, click Complete in the top right corner.
